Backup not recognized at all, files are still there.

Backup not recognized at all, files are still there.

I was planning to reinstall my system completely and left a backup of mostly my administrator folder running overnight.

I realise this was a mistake now as backup and recovery doesn't seem to recognize the backup at all.
I can open the zipfiles and see contents, and could possibly just extract the contents manually, if it wasn't for the fact that some files are split up.

The catalogue is there, everything is there, the system just won't recognize it, what gives?

Solutions to the Problem Backup not recognized at all, files are still there.

Download Error Fixer for Free Now

There is no error message really, it just simply doesn't list the backup.

There's so much info I can give you I don't really know where to start.
Honestly at this point I managed to confuse myself as what to do with the backup, all I know is that the catalog and the data is intact ( and that it is genuinely stupid that it doesn't
detect them.)

Edit: For the first time, double clicking on my D: image to restore suddenly actually does open it properly, instead of forcing itself to go to the E: image/open backup and restore.
I have no idea why this is acting the way it's acting, but I'm able to
access my data and restore it now.

Run CHKDSK to Fix Backup not recognized at all, files are still there.

  • Go to the Start button.
  • In the Search box, type "cmd" (without quotes) and press Enter.
  • At the command prompt, type "chkdsk /r /f" (without quotes) and press Enter.
  • Reboot your computer.
NOTE: You might receive an error message that states:

"Access denied as you do not have significant privileges. You have to invoke this utility in elevated mode."

If you receive the above error message, it means you are not logged into you computer as an Administrator. If that's the case, follow these steps to run the command prompt in elevated mode:

  • Go to theStart button.
  • Go to "All Programs > Accessories" and right click on "Command Prompt".
  • Select "Run as Administrator".
  • In the Search box, type "cmd" (without quotes) and press Enter.
  • At the command prompt, type "chkdsk /r /f" (without quotes) and press Enter.
  • Reboot your computer.
