I'm not sure clokdi's solution will work in your particular instance.
It works great if you have a regular file associated with the wrong application, such as a .docx associated with media center.
The problem here, though, is you have your shortcuts --
all of them -- associated with media center.
A shortcut, .lnk file extention, shouldn't be associated with anything.
It shows up in the file extention library as associated with "unknown" application.

It won't hurt to try clokdi's solution first as it's easier with less that can really go wrong.
It that doesn't work, thy this:

"Since the default action is caused by a user choice (inadvertant as it was), you may be able to restore simply by creating a new user account.
See if the icons return to their natural state and now work.
If so, just move all of your files and folders over
and delete the old account.
If you use Outlook you may also have to reset where it looks for the Outlook files, but it might be automatic (don't try starting Outlook until everything is copied over though).
If you use this method, don't forget to copy the
hidden appdata folder.
Just unhide everything before you start the copy.

The other method that requires a regedit is also fairly simple, but recommend you set a manual restore point before starting.
A regedit always has the potential to mess up your system.
procedures are:
Click Start Menu, and then type regedit in the Start Search and press
ENTER.
Right click on regedit from the search results and run as administrator.
Navigate to the following registry branch:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer\FileExts\[ext]
Replace the [ext] with the actual file extension that you want to restore its file type association to revert back to original Windows 7 default (probably .lnk).
If you unsure, simply browse through all the sub-key under
FileExts.

      3.    Delete the sub-key named UserChoice.

      4.    Exit from Registry Editor.

Theoretically, either method will work."

Good luck.

Open Action Center by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, clicking Control Panel, and then, under System and Security, clicking Review your computer's status.

Update and run your antivirus software. Windows doesn't come with antivirus software, but Action Center can often monitor the antivirus software that you or your computer manufacturer have installed.
