How Can I Fix - alt tab just flickers then disappears?

alt tab just flickers then disappears

when I 'alt+tab' it just flickers on for about a quarter of a second then disappears.
also the 'peek' from taskbar does the same, ditto for tool-tips and properties in Explorer (such as properties of a file)
Is there a way I can extend the view of these pop-ups and make the 'Alt+Tab" work again?
Windows 7 on G570 Lenovo laptop running 8 Gb RAM.

This might be caused due to corrupted System files or virus on the computer or Aero theme problem.

I would suggest you to Optimize Windows 7 and check if this fixes the issue.
