Cannot edit a the text in a picture inserted into Word from another program

I am attempting to edit the text in a picture that is from a document from another program (called 'HotDocs') that opens all files in Word, in compatibility mode.
I have contacted the makers of the other software and they are unable to assist me because
they say it is a problem with Word and that I should contact Microsoft for more information on how to edit the text.
When the file is open in Word, there are only two things that I am able to do: 1.
Move the picture up and down on the page and 2.
Re-size the
picture.

Word can only edit text in a graphic that is made with the Office drawing tools.
Any graphic created in another program is just a graphic for Word - it can't access the individual content inside.
"HotDocs" must use a different format/protocol to create this
graphic than what Word uses.
It's not a "problem with Word", it's a question with how "HotDocs" creates its graphics - it's no "compatible" with Office drawing objects.
You'll have to edit this text outside of Word, or recreate the graphic using the Office drawing tools.

To check for Windows updates. Open Windows Update by clicking the Start button , clicking All Programs, and then clicking Windows Update. In the left pane, click Check for updates, and then wait while Windows looks for the latest updates for your computer. If any updates are found, click Install updates.

Install the latest updates for Windows and for the program displaying the error. Note that the update for the program might be listed as an optional update on the Windows Update page.

Open Windows Update by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button. In the search box, type Update, and then, in the list of results, click Windows Update.
