Cannot get out of sleep mode without performing a hard reboot Tech Support

Cannot get out of sleep mode without performing a hard reboot

I have changed the power saver settings to never enter sleep mode for the display, computer, and hard drive and yet if I leave the computer for more than 15 minutes the computer goes into sleep mode and no mouse clicks or keyboard strokes will rewake it.
The only answer is to do a hard reboot.
The geek squad told me it was a Windows 7 issue that Microsoft is aware of but has not yet fixed.  Does anyone know if this is true?  When do they plan to fix it?  Is there a way to fix it?

Two troubleshooting methods to try and they both overlap quite a bit.
One troubleshooting
